The Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP) is excited to announce a 96% win rate for our emergency motions to reopen project. For over a year, ASAP and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Inc. (CLINIC) have partnered on a project to remotely file emergency motions for families who received deportation orders merely for not going to court. In most of these cases, the government failed to notify families of their hearings or they were prevented from going to court for reasons out of their control.
ASAP volunteers have worked on and won 44 of these types of cases, filing emergency motions and reversing deportation orders in 15 different immigration courts.
Based on this experience, ASAP and CLINIC co-authored the guide below, to provide advocates with strategies and best practices for representing asylum seekers with in absentia removal orders, including extensive templates for motions to reopen and other filings:
