Two weeks ago, we called on our supporters to take a stand against the inhumane detention of immigrant children. This week, we say thank you.
In just 15 days, ASAP’s supporters have submitted more than 100 comments to the Federal Register to demand the administration not overturn protections for children provided under the Flores settlement. Advocates from all over the country have taken action to tell the government – immigrant children should not be jailed. Families belong together and free.
If you haven’t submitted a comment, it’s not too late: you have until November 6, 2018 to tell the Federal Register that you stand with immigrant children and families. Use our template below, and ask your friends and family members to denounce our government’s actions as well! You should add any relevant personal or professional testimony that emphasizes why our government should not prolong the detention of children.
“My name is _________, and I oppose the administration’s proposed regulations, DHS Docket No. ICEB-2018-0002. The proposed regulations would threaten the dignity and welfare of immigrant children and would lead to the expanded detention of children in inhumane conditions. I demand the current administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Health and Human Services not overturn the protections provided for under the Flores settlement. Immigrant children should not be jailed. The administration should prioritize the expedient release of children to relatives and vetted sponsors. [Insert your personalized comment].”
We thank you for your continued support of the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP). Together, we will make our voices heard, stand up for asylum-seeking families, and help build a better world.
